Failing over LIFs across subnets in ONTAP requires the use of virtual IP addresses combined with dynamic routing. BGP is used to advertise and withdraw the VIP routes, allowing client traffic to be redirected automatically to the new network path when a failover occurs.

External antivirus protection in ONTAP (Vscan) requires a scanner pool, which defines the external antivirus servers that perform file scanning on behalf of the cluster. Without a scanner pool, ONTAP cannot offload scan requests to external antivirus engines.
