TheVM Direct Engine(also known as the vProxy) is the protection engine used to back up and restore virtual machines in a VMware environment. Once a VM Direct Engine has been deployed and registered with PowerProtect Data Manager, certain configuration aspects are fixed to the virtual appliance ' s deployment, while others are adjustable.
* Transport Mode:This is a logical setting that defines how the engine accesses virtual machine data (e.g., HotAddorNBD/NBDSSL). Administrators can modify the Transport Mode after deployment through the PPDM UI to optimize performance or troubleshoot connectivity issues without needing to redeploy the appliance.
* Fixed Attributes:Attributes like theNetwork,Data Store, and the specificESXi Hostwhere the VM resides are typically defined during the OVF deployment phase. If these underlying infrastructure components need to change significantly (such as moving the engine to a different management network), it usually requires deleting the engine from PPDM and redeploying it with the new parameters to ensure proper integration with the vCenter environment.
