The ASET Code of Ethics requires members to "present clearly to employers and clients the possible consequences if professional decisions or judgments are overruled or disregarded." Signing off immediately (Option A) without outlining these risks is a failure of the professional's advisory duty. However, escalating to ASET (Option B) or the media (Option D) is vastly disproportionate and unprofessional, as no safety laws are being broken. The correct, ethical step is to act as a competent advisor: raise the reliability concerns directly to the supervisor, explicitly outlining the negative financial and reputational consequences of the cost-cutting measure. If the employer still chooses to proceed after being fully informed, the member has fulfilled their ethical duty regarding corporate business decisions.

In Canada, environmental regulation is a matter of shared constitutional jurisdiction, meaning both the federal and provincial governments have authority over different aspects of the environment. However, when referencing general "Environmental Protection Acts" that directly govern local industrial operations, land use, localized emissions, waste management, and resource extraction, these fall primarily under Provincial law.
