Ethernet OAM link monitoring is the mechanism responsible for detecting link faults and generating error events that can be signaled to the remote endpoint. By enabling link monitoring, the OAM process can identify degradation or failures and notify the remote device accordingly.

For multicast VPNs using MLDP, the default MDT must be established correctly between the PEs. This requires the MLDP tunnel endpoints to use the loopback addresses of the source and receiver PEs, not the interface IPs shown. Configuring the MLDP peer IP address as the loopback of the source on the receiver (and vice versa) ensures that the default MDT forms properly, allowing multicast streams to flow from the IPTV source to the receiver.

To support Ethernet OAM monitoring between CE and PE, the provider edge must explicitly allow remote loopback operations on the UNI. Enabling remote loopback support on PE2 allows CE1 to initiate OAM loopback testing toward the provider side, satisfying the customer's monitoring requirement.
