When SAML-based Forward Proxy authentication is configured with ADFS, Netskope's nsauth proxy validates the SAML assertion received from the IdP during the authentication flow. If users receive an authentication error when accessing websites, a common cause is an issue with the ADFS certificate that was uploaded to the Netskope tenant for SAML signature validation. Specifically, if the certificate is incorrectly formatted such as missing proper PEM encoding, containing extra characters, or being in the wrong format, Netskope will fail to validate the SAML assertion signature and reject the authentication attempt. This results in users being unable to access any web content through the proxy. Resolving this requires re-exporting the ADFS signing certificate in the correct format and uploading it correctly to the Netskope SAML Forward Proxy configuration page.

Netskope's global data plane infrastructure uses a combination of DNS and IP-based techniques to direct Netskope Client traffic to the nearest available data plane. When the nearest data plane becomes unavailable, the Netskope Client automatically fails over to the next best available data plane based on latency and availability metrics. This is by design to maintain service continuity, but it can result in suboptimal performance for affected users, as traffic is now traversing a greater geographic distance. The connection itself remains functional, as the failover data plane is operational, but the increased round-trip latency manifests as sluggish application performance for the affected branch office users. On-premises detection failures and DNS failures would result in different and more disruptive client behaviors.

In Netskope's Advanced Analytics, the activity field captures the specific user action associated with a cloud access event, such as Upload, Download, Login, or Post. When a user accesses a static web page, no structured activity is associated with the request because static page loads do not trigger CASB activity classification in the same manner as application-specific operations. As a result, the activity field for such events will appear as NULL in the Advanced Analytics dataset. This is expected behavior when traffic primarily consists of web browsing without interaction with a recognized cloud application function. SSPM policy configuration and REST API token expiration would affect data availability more broadly, not selectively null out the activity field for specific event types.

Certificate pinning is a security mechanism used by some native applications to validate that the server's certificate matches a hard-coded expected value, which causes failures when an SSL inspection proxy substitutes its own certificate during inspection. To allow certificate-pinned applications to function while still being steered to Netskope, two approaches are valid. First, configuring an SSL Do Not Decrypt policy for the specific domains used by the application instructs Netskope to forward the TLS connection without substituting its certificate, preserving the pinned certificate chain end-to-end. Second, configuring Netskope to tunnel the traffic without proxy inspection achieves the same result: traffic is steered to Netskope but bypasses the inspection layer. Creating domain exceptions in the steering configuration would prevent the traffic from reaching Netskope at all, eliminating any visibility or telemetry.

The Netskope Client Devices page within the Netskope tenant provides a centralized inventory of all devices on which the Netskope Client has been installed and registered. By searching for a specific hostname in this interface, administrators can immediately verify whether the client is currently installed and reporting on that device, view the current client status such as active, inactive, or tunnel connected, and identify which user is currently or was last assigned to the device. This is the most direct and efficient method for remotely verifying client installation and steering status without requiring direct access to the endpoint itself. Skope IT Application Events could show historical activity but would not confirm the current client installation state or user assignment as reliably as the dedicated Client Devices page.
